Erie, was driving a Kenworth tandem dump truck when the truck brakes failed on Pounds Hollow Road next to the intersection of Illinois 1, in Gallatin County.</p><p><br />He told police he was able to gear down enough to avoid going through the T-intersection, but still needed to avoid traffic. His dump truck turned over and came to rest just east of Illinois 1 with flames coming from it.</p><p>The driver was able to exit the overturned vehicle safely.
